May 4th is the commemoration of Saint Florian – the patron saint of firefighters, rescuers, and chimney sweeps.

In the video, Jan Leksa, vice president of the Association of Chimney Sweeps of the Czech Republic, explains.

Some Czech households were surprised by a tougher heating season this year. After several mild winters, many people underestimated their fuel supplies and had to buy pellets, briquettes or other fuel at higher prices during January and February.

Michal Bartoška, chairman of the Association for Ecological Wood Heating, explains in the Czech Television programme Události v regionech (Events in the Regions) on 6 March 2026 that the higher number of heating days and lower average temperatures this year have resulted in significantly higher fuel consumption.
